Gowine Focus: Campania

iBESTmag - Go Wine Focus Campania - Cantine Iannella - Don Nicola

High-level wineries in  Gowine’s meeting at Savoy, with a focus on Campania.

Once again we went at the Hotel Savoy for one of the valuable initiatives organized by GoWine. The latter was dedicated exclusively to wines from Campania. About twenty producers were present with numerous proposals of a remarkable level.

The fact that the event had such a particular focus allowed us to get to know many labels that declined in different forms a small number of vines: all this species for reds, where Aglianico dominated unchallenged (with some rare exceptions).

We particularly like this type of tasting, because it is easier to compare wines that are different (by terroir, grape variations, vinification, aging), but still with similar origins. The comparison is more direct and immediate and also … we would dare to say, more logical. It is different, in fact, to pass (just to give an example) from a Nebbiolo to a passito di Pantelleria, as can happen in larger events.

As mentioned, we found the general level very high, with in particular some very pleasant surprises, from producers who for the first time participated in similar events.

And then we come to our tastings which, this time, were more numerous than usual … perhaps thanks to the type of event and the quality of the wines present.

Note: The number of tastings from the various producers is exclusively linked to the case and the variations of the moment. For this reason in some cases we taste different wines from a producer and maybe, only one from others. We cannot taste them all, of course, and therefore also the choice of which producers to test is due exclusively to chance or to our desire to evaluate specific vines or terroirs.
