A surprising hotel in the heart of Upper Midtown – Manhattan.
Just two blocks from Central Park, a very exclusive stay in a place where Kit Kemp’s (owner together with her husband Tim of the Firmdale group who built this hotel) visionary imagination was able to unfold freely, giving life to something truly amazing.
In fact, Kit personally took care of the interior design of Whitby in every small detail, in a glowing mix of art, design, handmade fabrics, sculptures, paintings and furniture designed and created by herself, or by other well-known artists chosen by her. In this way she has created an oasis of colors and sensations that completely capture the guests and, as with a touch of magic wand, immediately project them away from the chaos of the city which is also just a few meters away.
The wisdom and painstaking work of artisans and artists can be found in each of the common areas of this hotel, from the Lobby, to the Orangerie, to the Drawing Room, to the Whitby Bar & Restaurant, as well as in each of the 86 rooms (obviously each with its individual design and with large floor to ceiling windows).
Unique and Precious
At every moment and in every place, the eye falls on something unique and precious, wisely integrated into the general context. Also the collection of courtesy products found in every luxury hotel is an exclusive Kit Kemp signed and called RikRak.
The Whitby’s cuisine, under the careful guidance of Head Chef Anthony Paris, in a sense follows the style of the surrounding environment. Creative dishes, in American style, but enriched by multiple influences, and above all that favor seasonality.
In the hotel there are also meeting and event rooms and even a theater. Naturally all in the same “personalized” style as in the other rooms.
After the success of the Crosby Street Hotel opened in 2009 (and of the other 10 luxury London hotels), the Firmdale group therefore sets another milestone in the exclusive hospitality sector. The strategic position (West 56th Street & 5th Avenue), between Central Park, museums, art galleries and luxury boutiques, the artistic qualities of the interior design and the exclusivity of the service, in fact place the Whitby at the top of the New York hotel offer.
