Vertical Tasting “Diplomàtico” Rum – Press Event

It was held yesterday, September 27th, at the A Roma Lifestyle Hotel, the presentation event at the Press of the 6th Edition of the ShowRum Italian Rum Festival (September 30th – October 1st).
An interesting “Vertical” tasting, comprising 5 different years of Single Rum Diplomático welcomed yesterday the Press representatives, who took part in numerous to the presentation of the sixth edition of Showrum Italia. The Mastro Ronero Nelson Hernandez and the Brand Ambassador Walter Murcielago Gosso, in fact, guided the present through all the phases of the work, with a discussion of the topic full of details, followed by the real tasting. The first year, the one that started the “Single” series was the one of 1997. Following the years 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2004. As you can see, the 2003 vintage is missing, which has not been commercialized as vintage, as it did not meet the quality standards of Diplomático.

Produced entirely in Venezuela, following the strict DOC disciplinary, these Single Rum turned out to be really exquisite and thanks to the Vertical tasting, even the newbies were able to appreciate the different nuances given to the single years by the long rest in American Bourbon (10 years) , Scotch Whisky (2 years) and Sherry Oloroso (1 year) barrels. The general character is clearly the same, but the different hints of Chocolate, Caramel, Vanilla, Tobacco, Pepper to other spices, were differently modulated according to the years. Some softer and rounder, like 2002, others more “rough” as 1997. Although having the same aging of 13 years in total, the different vintages report the influence of the single barrels in which they have passed (intact) so many long years. After the tasting, Leonardo Pinto, organizer of the Festival, illustrated the program to the participants and the evening ended with a cocktail-buffet in the hotel’s Sky Stars bar.
